Im thinking about getting a Genesis 1588 with auto egg turner. Can anyone give me some tips on it?

Before you get it , buy a digital thermometer hydrometer dont use the thermometer that comes with the unit is useless
to test your new hydrometer
you will need
1 ziplock bag
1 ceramic cup
1/2 cup of sea salt
1/4 of water

put the salt in the cup
put the water in the cup
put the hydrometer and the cup inside the ziplock bag
close the bag , and wait 12 hours ,it should read 75% humidity if is higher or lower than you know how to read your humidity in your incubator

when you get the incubator
put it toghether and run it without water put the thermometer hydrometer inside to findout how is ur humidity in your house after 24 hours you should have a good reading of temperature and humidity
than add water
I put 1/4 of a cup of warm water and wait to see how much will that increase
if you need more add another 1/4 of a cup
and wait

dont spect the reading to change fast it takes time

hope this helps

I have one 1588 with turner running now with 44 quail eggs

I have been using mine since last spring and love it. I've had great hatches! I previously had used a Little Giant ... which I found unreliable.

Definitely need the egg turner!

Good luck!

I have one and think it is great. Read the instructions that comes with it. I didn't then realized that the water trays are preset for humidity...now my second hatch is much less stressful!

I started with an LG - piece of poo.

I bought a 1588 - LOVED IT!!

Bought a Dickey cabinet bator, and used the 1588 as a hatcher - loved it BUT...ended up selling the cabinet in favor of adding more 1588s!! I have three now, two for bators, one for hatching!

Here's my tip - BUY IT! It's really THAT easy!

Is the 1588 a more modern version of the 1582 I have here?

The design (HUGE WINDOW) is very similar, although the 1588 is more streamlined in appearance.

Dixie, I just set mine yesterday too. This is also my first hatch with an incubator. So far, it seems like a good bator for a novice.

I also have a broody that just finished her first brood and went broody again

. So, I gave her 5 eggs and put 5 in the bater to see how we do.

BTW, where do you live? I'm also near the VA/NC line, near Virgilina. Are you anywhere near here?
