Genetic calculator

Yes, delaware is not the most common color.
On the startpage of the determinator I put the remark "For now, ignore any birdwide baring effect". That also applies for delaware but one can hardly call it birdwide there, allthough it is...

Problem with the Fuzzy approach is: chicken colornames are STUPID.
Het silver birds are called golden, gold based chickens are called red (BBR), some names can mean 2 different colors eg jubilee, chamois, spangled (Hamburgh vs OEGB).
Lavender is called self blue, partridge is called brown.
Then people spell different etcetera.
Then mutts don't have propper colornames at all, you have to look at the chicken, eg underfluff, shankcolor to learn something.

The chickenquest approach could be finetuned to make a failsafe thing but that will take a lot of work.

One could make a database will all the genotypes per breed but that will never be complete, like the one with the chickencolor names in the subscript.

So the original chickencalculator is not that bad, it forces you to learn about the genes interacting. I think that is the easiest way.

If you are using the chickenquest approach to describe mutts, I really think it becomes hard. As you mentioned the colors mean different things with different breeds or the same colors are called different things. Different people can look at the same colors and see them differently. I guess what I am saying is that you would have to set up a specific terminology for your tool and everyone would have to learn to use that, even if it requires some unlearning based on the breeds they are familiar with. However, for any approach, you have to set the terminology for whichever tool you develop and the users have to learn that. I think that is the only logical way to go. Then developing a tool that handles leakage or maybe a chicken that expresses both barring and mille fleur, especially if the barring is restricted like on a Delaware. I believe you would need quite a bit of experience to recognize what you are looking at. I think you have a tremendous challenge in front of you to make this approach failsafe, especially for mutts, unless your target is the other experts.

What is the downside of the database of genotype per breed never being complete? I'd imagine you and others already have a pretty good database on the more common ones and that would give us beginners and casual users a lot more assurance we are at least starting correctly. Then we could use the original chicken calculator to advance. I like the basic calculator. You have to learn to really use it to advance but you can also just play with it, have fun, and get good info even as a casual user.

Thanks for all your effort. I certainly appreciate it.

To be honest I still use only the original calculator, I think it's quite easy. Yes it forces you to learn, but then it is so much easier and more understandable overall once you get to that stage! I think you've done a great effort! Now where's the calculator for down colour in day-olds?
