hmmm, well compared to my gold star, whos comb is almost pointy hers seem more rounded and flat

Looks like a sidespring. It can happen, there's nothing truly wrong with it unless you plan to show or breed quality stock.

but what is and causes a sidespring?? and will it affect anything?

Poor breeding I guess (lack of paying attention to what they breed) it doesn't affect anything but showability though.

Illia is right, she has a side sprig. I thought when you described it, it sounded like one. It's genetic, would most likely be passed on to her offspring, but nothing to worry about, just a defect.

It doesn't look like a simple side sprig. How tall is the comb? A side photo would be great.

I had a hen (not a BR) with two side sprigs, one on each of opposite sides of her single comb at the back so that, if you viewed it from the back, it looked like a star.
