I want to create a new color of Rosecomb. I am thinking about Silver Duckwing Rosecombs. I am thinking about using a OEG bantams. Approx. how long would it take for me to get the SD color on the Rosecombs if I use black rosecombs. Or Also I am thinking about making Lavender Rosecombs. But Silver Duckwing OEGB are alot easier for me to find.

Punnet Squares would help, I understand genetics just not chicken genetics.

Im not quite sure how long it would take using a Black, it shouldnt take too long but the thing is you would have to keep breeding a back to a black to get the right type and they would set you back, But if you could land some BBRed Rosecombs to use, that would help the project greatly as BBRed (Red Duckwing) and Silver Duckwing are Gold and Silver inverses of each other.

So say by breeding an SD OEGB roo with a BBR RC hen, that would give you all pure colored Silver Duckwing female offspring and they should have rose combs.

Then You can use both sexes of the F1s. Breed the F! females with a pure BBR male and that would make sexlinks, the females would be pure BBRed colored and the males would be more golden ducking colored ( split for both silver and gold genes), you would use the golden duckwing males futher in the project.

Also by breeding those F1 males from the first cross, Who should also look similar to Golden Duckwings, and breeding the to a pure BBRed RC hen, I believe that should give about half of the females would be Silver Duckwing, half would be BBRed, and half of the males would be the Gold Duckwing (split) color and the other half would be BBRed.

So since they are the same pattern, just gold inverses of what you are trying to make, using BBReds would be much easier. If you dont have BBReds maybe you could find someone who does have eggs, chicks, or a pair to sale, and maybe you can buy some from them or maybe work out a deal with them like if they give you a good deal on the BBReds to start the project, then you would send them some eggs or started birds once you get the Silver Duckwings make if you would be willing to do that.

See the problem is all I have are Black Rosecombs! I really don't want to pay threw the nose to get a BBRed Rosecomb. UGH I need people who have an interest in a breeding program.

Yep that would help if you could find someone so maybe you could work out a deal with them like I mentioned.

I think It may be easier to make Lavender rosecombs because they are not patterened.

i got a pair of silver duckwing rosecombs. what do yall think abou them? i got a great deal on them, so i bought them. hows there quality? etc. i bought them yesterday, and took the pics earlier today. heres the link to the pics of them.

You also could use silver duckwing dutch bantams.
They are more similar to rosecombs than oegb.
