Genotype Questions

Quote:
Really? I was told they were a strain of Harlequins (I guess it makes more sense that they are Aleutians (Gen. li/li, a common sport in grays) - They don't look like Harlequins, but they'd be about the same size with that heritage.) Where did you find info about them?
Elisabeths don't seem to carry Restricted (exept the dark kind might).

Back when my wife was debating on weather to get Silver Apple Yard or Elizabeth ducks she found 4 or 5 thing on the net about them and I read through them but this was about 6 years ago.

As for them being a strain of Harlequins that may be true now. They may have bred so Harlequins or even Apple Yard in to them just because they are hard to find.

Brown Red with Gold (s) removed and Silver (S) added is Silver Birchen. Correct?

Roosters that are true/good Mealy colored shouldn't have a patterned breast, it should be nearly if not totally White.

I know what Mealy looks like.

I seen some very good Mealy Gray come from a Brown Red / Silver Duckwing (Gray)/ Dark Brown breeding.
In order to be a "true" Mealy Gray the need Gray (Silver Duckwing) in them hence the name Mealy Gray. Now Im sure there are other cross that would get you a mock Mealy Gray just like Crele and Lemon Blue.

The "Mealy Gold" or Red Mealy that I seen were just like the Mealy Gray but with Gold/Red color in place of the Silver.

See, I always saw Redmond's as Silver Quill. If I remember correctly they carried Elsin Redquill blood I thought; but definitely not sure on this. Would Silver Quill/Mealy gray basically be the same gene? A few of these birds even look like what people would commonly refer to as Silver Ginger.

ETA: Apparently it wasn't Elsin, but Grist Grady fowl which carried Redquill blood (among others). The Elsin Redquills do share some of the same lines in their heritage as the Redmond grey though however.

DT,
The cock bird in that video is light so I think it is a Light Mealy Gray now the hen IMO is a nice Mealy Gray.

Silver Quill should be -
Brassy Back + Colombian + Silver (Gray)
