The problem with the Jaerhon is that the males are so different than the females. There are differences in males and females but differences in the Jaerhon do not fit the genetic expressions of other birds.

I am interested in the Jaerhon and would love to work out the genetics but I do not have the room to do so.

Jaerhons are Autosexing, aren't they?

Jaers are considered to be autosexing the same as the Cream Legbars as they are both barred and red.

The chicks on the left are darks. On the right are lights. The males for both are on top and the females on the bottom. These are not my chicks the pictures were posted by roosterfry who is one of the folks doing research on Jaers. He also posted the following pictures. I think these pictures are from site in Norway.

No I mean semi-autosexing. Silverudd came up with the term to describe breeds that can be sexed with a moderate to high degree of accuracy (80-95)%. Autosexing breeds can be separated with close to or 100% accuracy.

I am not convinced that the Jaerhon are autosexing. The best autosexing breeds are built upon the wild type allele and carry the barring gene. Both the light and the dark do not appear to have the correct down colors. Especially the dark- I do not see any difference in the down color other than the head spot- and I do not see a head spot on the female. I would like to see 50 of each variety and then see the differences.
