Georgette or George?

When you say 'she is getting ready to lay is all', does that mean general loudness is an indication that she is getting close? I know they are all the age now where they could start popping them out any day.

the comb indicates she is getting ready to lay. You can always tell, even in older hens, the ones that are laying or about to lay. As for the noise, I guess the layers may talk more, but I have found some just make more noise than others. I have a hen I raised from a chick that has always carried on vocally. She even peeped all night as a baby chick.

I say pullet. I have a black austrolorp hen and her comb and wattles are huge! Her comb is about twice as big as your's is. No kidding I have had people absolutely insist she is a roo.

But, hey, she lays eggs.

Some pullets get louder and noisier as they get closer to laying, others don't. It's purely an individual thing. Her large glossy red comb and wattles and her change in behavior sounds like she's getting ready to lay.
