German New Hampshire

12:55 A.M. Number 10 New Hampshire just came hopping out of it's egg. OH WOW, I can't believe all this. One more egg has a little pip but I haven't seen anything on number 12. Thank you so much Luanne, Kathy, Doug and anyone else involved in getting this wonderful specimen of New Hampshire's to us.

Could there be one more? Or two?? I can honestly say that this is the best auction that I had ever invested in. Geez, who would have thunk it?

Oh, they are drinking/eating already Kathy.

Well congrats on such a great hatch esp. for shipped eggs and like Mrs. Kathy said that was due to great incubation breeding(husbandry) and packing skills all combined.

I will have to say that these New Hampshires are going to be #1 on you're totem pole now. I've raised chickens for along time and besides having a few hand raised pet "mongrels" that I have absolutely spoilde to death from hatch, that my New Hampshires are the most docile easiest going birds I've ever raised and are always under-foot and pestering the daylights out of me all this with no special attention they just are born with this type of characteristic.
So cheers to ya, and happy farming,

Jeff

Okay folks, here's the scoop. Won 12 eggs on auction. Luanne sent 15. I put these and 3 test eggs in bator. On day 7, 12 NH looked good. Day 18, I put 12 NH and my 3 test eggs in bator. 10 NH and 3 test eggs hatched. Checked the last 2 this morning. One had pipped upside down and did no more. The last one did no pip etc. dead in shell. Not bad 12 NH and 3 test eggs made it to lock down and I ended up with 13 little fuzzy butts. Tha, tha, that's all folks. All are doing well and now just have to raise them all up. Ready to clean bators and set them aside for a few months. Wow, I've had a busy summer, fall and winter of 2011 and Jan 2012. Thanks to you all for the wonderful comments and hopeful wishes on this last hatch.

Thanks Ben, I am totally overwhelmed. Best hatch ever.
Jim,
Wow man, 10 out of 12 that got to be the best hatch on shipped eggs that I have read about. My bators have been running non stop since before Thanksgiving and the closest I've come to that has been right at 50%. I'm hoping that when my hens start laying in a few weeks my % will go up with my own eggs.

Congrats on such a great hatch.

Hey Chris,
Yes, this is almost unheard of for shipped eggs. Just a few days before I got these eggs I had 15 shipped eggs in the bator that not one developed. One egg started and at day 7 had the blood ring. They were all tossed. I have always had 90 - 100% with my own eggs. Like you, I have been running my bators since May or June and %'s have been terrible. This is why I am so overwhelmed with this hatch and then with it being these NH's I am tickled about to death. Thanks
Also, thought that I should add, as of right now all are doing great. Eating and drinking and hopping around like little machines. lol

Wow, that is a very good hatch rate!

The best hatch rate I ever had, was on shipped eggs, was 100 percent on 6 peafowl eggs by a broody Buff Orpington/EE. I was nervous wheck during 28 days. lol
Thanks, and that is great for you. I know my old hatchery Buff Orp's were always wanting to set and I have no doubt that they would make wonderful mothers. My old parents always had the old buff orp's and they were always raising babies.

I have only had one New Hampshire. She was a decent layer and i sweet, calm, curious hen. I know the breed has a lot of RIR blood in it. I know they are a little larger bird. How well do the New Hampshires lay compared to RIRs or BR??? I am really considering getting some more.
