German New Hampshire

A pinched tail also refers to a narrow tail from behind. A nice teepee shape is preferred....if the feathers are close together instead of with some spread, its also called pinched.

Yes Banjoe that helps...thanks. I still think that I have an issue just maybe used the wrong words to describe what I have going on. This is what I think I was trying to say.....

Looking from behind this is what I have going on with a number of birds.

You don't want to breed that either. That is a DQ and will breed forward.

Wry tail would be that she holds the tail to one side all the time. She has pinched tail for sure. Wry tail and pinched tail may go hand in hand, you may not be able to have wry tail without pinched tail.

Tails can be pinched from the side view (showing only a couple tail feathers instead of all of them)........they can also be pinched from the rear view. (tail feathers close to each other or touching, tail not open). .or they can have both. The SOP says: Female...Medium length Well Spread.... not like the bird in the foreground, but like the bird in the background..right side.

Thanks guys for the info. None of the pullets I have hold their tail to one side that’s why I didn’t think that I had a wry tail issue. All of their tails are basically like the birds in the pics I posted, very narrow with no to very little spread. I may have a couple pinched like in the pics that Banjoe posted but most if not all have almost no spread. So my question again is this… is this something that can be worked on with time and breeding or do I need to start looking for new birds because this just is not going to go away.

I thought I would share a photo of one of my hens. I think she sports some lovely neck barring.
Thanks for sharing.

I like those black tipped feathers there!
SOP says, "Neck: Medium chestnut red, each feather edged with brilliant chestnut red; lower neck feathers distinctly tipped with black. Front of neck- medium chestnut red."

Is there anyone within a 2 hrs drive of Nashville with German NH? PM me please!
