XW poultry's Jwip and his son Devyn took names and tore rump with two of those "mutt" halfbreed NH pullets this past weekend at the Nebraska state fair. One placed Best American and Best LF in the Jr. show the other had Best American and Res. LF


They also did very well with three other breeds they took with them they had 11 placements with 5 of their entries.

the NH are not really halfbreeds/or mutts(inside joke sorta to some of us) but are from some experimental mating Jeremy did this past breeding season(for those who have'nt been following that subject on here) for experimental use only looks as if he hit it right on LOL

I am headed on tuesday to see my friend who has a super quad of these NH's i hatched this year. They are about 7-8 months...She is about 45 minutes from me...I plan to take more updated pics and share. she has my #1 pick male that I have posted on here. We are planning to breed in 2014...her 3 pullets and my 2...Matt Ulrich is going to look my video/pics for a hopeful 'thumbs up' over before we embark on our breeding project. LOVE these...but I will say the Buff Rocks are right up there with these NH's in fast maturity, vigor and killer type even at less than 3 months. Roebuck is liking their color alot too at this young age!
I keep bugging you to get some pics of your birds, Jeff

I know I'm the worst procrastinator there is sometimes. I'm gonna do it soon. Its blazing hot here right when I need to be out taking pics of these girls in the afternoon time sun. I have to take them out of the barn cause its just too dark for proper colored pics in there even with a flash. Now the pretty green grass that makes for such an awesome backdrop for chicken pics is even ugly and scorched due to my procrastination habits LOL

I am now getting 4 eggs a day from my Jwip cross pullets. I believe they did that well at the show. Mine look really really good also. I could not resist I started a fall hatch of some other breeds and put 11 of there eggs in. See what happens. I do like the eggs small but a nice shape and all the same color.

you'll probably be the first to hatch from this cross for F2 generation...I am going to wait until the pullets are 10 months+ to start hatching...have not had the best of luck and overall vigor with pullet eggs in the past.

Yeah I'm going to wait for a bit too not so much as the jumping the gun and/or the small pullet egg thing. I would rather hatch from the eggs when they are a little larger(after a couple months laying)and the pullets are more mature and their egg factory has been running for a spell. By then maybe the glitches and bugs would be less likely to occur. I think the chicks just have more room to grow and form better too me, but more so I'm going to wait for cooler temps. I find the chicks just grow better in the cooler temps than like now(some disagree, but a lot of folk disagree) LOL I do already have the girls and their beau(an older GNH) in their respective pen courting and learning to love one another, though. LOL

I know what your saying about pullet eggs. I will just call this a test hatch for now. I will not hatch anymore until The first part of March. I do have a GNH rooster with them and they are so much in love with him. We have real nice green grass right now because of the rains we have had. What a beautiful sight watching the 9 pullets and that rooster walk and hunt across that grass.

Hi Jeff, I've heard that you have some very nice NH., and am looking forward to seeing the photos of your birds. Always such a pleasant feeling to see some eye-candy..
