Good day all,
Sorry, I work nights, and just woke up. Gosh, I am sorry for all the upset over this.

This is all I have to say about this subject.....
I have always been open and honest about my stock. I had an auction last year, on BYC, and had several orders after that. My original stock was shown (photographs). That is where everyone's birds came from. It was then up the those getting them, to cull.

By the way, I have no idea how much $ exchanged hands between Banjoe and Scott. That's none of my business either.....

Please note..... BEFORE I ever even had an auction, I posted this thread.... seeking advice.

On the other hand, if Banjo chose this particular rooster out of all others that he had, perhaps it was the best choice for other reasons that only Banjo knows, even if the tail set is too high. Sometimes you have to choose the lesser of two evils. The revered Ralph Sturgeon wrote a whole dang book called "Start Where You Are With What You Have". It's up to whoever wants NH to decide if they want eggs or chicks from Banjo or any of the rest of us that are selling them.

Kathy, after wiping away the tears, I have to write this and tell you that that is absolutely beautiful. (The second thread) I am very soft hearted and wow, that really got to me. My mom always said "IF you can't say something good about anyone, keep your mouth shut."
Not wanting praise nor pats on the back but I take care of elderly and challenged persons and have for 38 years in July. November 06 I got a call from one of the local agencies in my area asking me if I had any room and I said yes. I took in a homeless man who was sleeping in a junked car along a back street in town. When the agency brought him to me, they got one of the local churches to pay his first month room and board and said that they were getting him started on welfare. Well that was over 5 years ago and the poor man still has no income. The welfare office does give him $200.00 a month in food stamps and that is all.
I still thank God though for having enough to feed and cloth him and give him a nice warm bed to sleep in. What makes me angry is the agency folks run around telling others how they place people in nice homes. ha, ha.

I believe a lot of people have gotten NH eggs from Kathy, Banjojo and Luanne included. What is most important is how you cull that next generation. I think its fairly obvious, when looking at Luanne's birds and banjojo's birds, who has done the most severe culling. I know its very hard to cull any birds when you've paid a lot for eggs. How many times has one read articles from the top breeders of any breed, and they will tell you out of hatching hundreds of chicks, only a very few made it as breeders. Just because you hatch a batch of eggs from a breeder with great stock, doesnt mean the results will be breeders. It just doesnt happen that way. On the other hand, if what you have hatched is all you have to work with, then you have to cull the next generation ruthlessly. I personally hatched some eggs from a very good line of birds (not NHs), grew them out, and sold them all. None were good enough to keep as breeders. It happens. A lot. I didnt blame the breeder. Had I hatched 100 chicks, I probably would have gotten a dozen good ones to work with, but I just couldnt hatch that many.

Part of this is why when I see Marans breeders name drop to say where their "lines" came from, it drives me crazy. Their birds are probably 10 generations away from the names they are dropping, and we can see how a line of birds can be changed in a single generation, much less 5 or 6 or 10, by simply not culling.

So yes, Kathy has been generous in letting people get eggs and chicks from her, but what you do with them is what makes you a breeder or a hatchery. I am growing out some German New Hampsires right now, but just because the fact that they are German New Hampshires will not insure they will be breeding stock for me. I know the birds they came from, and they need to be at least that good, with no disqualifyable faults. I hope people do take care of these birds and breed them responsibly, because they are just absolutely gorgeous birds.
