Get in line girls....pile up at the egg nesting box ( es).

My chickens are weird. They each have a nest box for themselves. 16 hens. 16 nest boxes.. While they occasionally share a box I swear they delight in making me guess which boxes they laid an egg in. Everyday is a Easter egg hunt for me.

6 hens, 6 nesting boxes in a row.........

ALL 6 WANT TO USE THE SAME BOX ALL OF THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!

So I blocked that box.... a bit of behavior mod.......

The #3 box has been used..... 4 times in a year.......

What's funny is when 2 or 3 crawl into the same box and the "Yodeling" begins.........

Don't fret and get used to it......

As has been said, don't stress or worry about it. We had 36 pullets laying last summer and six nesting boxes and often
I would find about 20 or more eggs in one of the nests and only a few in the others - go figure! Now we only have 14
hens and the same 6 nesting boxes and there will usually be a 'pile' of 7 - 8 in one of the nests and just a couple in the
others if any. Maybe they just like laying on top of the other eggs. We have standard size Barred Rocks and it always amazes my husband and I how they can lay w/o breaking the pile of eggs beneath them and the eggs are usually so very clean! I use pine straw in my nesting boxes and the 'girls' seem to love it.

I bought some plastic eggs from the feed store and put one in each of the 6 nest boxes for 12 hens. Otherwise the low on the pecking order hens often got pecked out of the favorite nest box. It was an Easter egg hunt around the run trying to find their eggs. The #1 favorite box changes by the week.

I have 6 hens and 10 nesting boxes. I collected 6 eggs a day the last 3 days and they were in only 2 boxes each day. They line up on the roost bar and wait their turn. They don't fuss at each other or make any sound while they wait! I have had as many as 4 of my Dom hens in the box at one time! Wish I had of had my camera with me!
They will work it out amongst themselves. Don't worry, be happy!
