Get Promoted

Oh wow,

I see...but free or paid, it should all work the same under one idea being: Popularity...correcT? Because its free...my website's bandwidth is only 500mb and I have surpassed it already in only 3 days. I had over 200 hits in 3 days, thats why. Haha.

Anyhow, in order for webs crawl, I guess I have to ask friends and everyone to search up "Tommy's Pet Center" then? That was my title within the first 3 weeks but now its "Tommy's Pet Paradise". I just changed it recently so it does'nt show up on Yahoo anymore.

Is it true that if you change your site's title often, it will be bad because people can't really search for ya?

my "library" is built on a free board (is that different that a web page?) and I certainly dont (nor want) it "promoted" nor have I submitted to google or yahoo and such but it comes right up in a search

That's exactly how I feel. Having a paid domain name gives you a bit more authority and legitimacy.

Of course, not everyone knows how to set up their own server at home, etc.

I think that one of the reasons certain sites show up on the first page of hits in Google is the number of visits a site gets based on the results of a particular search. You need people to visit your website via Google before it will end up at the top of the list.

I believe there are some things you can do with the code for your web page to make it more likely to turn up when someone searches for the topic of your page. There is some way you can add key words to the source code that search engines will find.

The best thing you can do, is if you own the domain, make sure you have it registered for more then 3 years. It ranks higher. Try and keep it off of free hosts too. Also, if you are using the Wordpress software or something similar, ping technorati etc. to let them know when the site has been updated. Another good thing is to digg and stumble all your posts. Also, make comments on other similar sites with your link. Lots of comments on other sites is a great way not only to promote traffic, but to get your link on other sites. Also, update, update, and update some more. Make sure it's all original content, the more you have, the more traffic from search engines. No need to submit your site link to the search engines, they will find you if your link is on an established site. Hope this helped a tad.

Oh, one more thing.....join a bunch of forums, no spammy ones. Put your site link in your sig. Next day you will see it crawled. Post your link in yahoo and google groups too. Don't make it spammy though.

Thanks for the many tips that you are showing everyone here. Real good stuff and I have tried most of them before. It really DOES work as I can see from my site. Hehe. Nevertheless, I should want to buy a few domain names soon to claim my "animalsinthecity" name and perhaps a few others like "tommy's pet paradise" or "tommy's american onagadori". Haha. Just a few things I might do, any suggestions?

Oh...so holliewould, do you have a website too?

Buy your domain from godaddy.com they are cheap and always have deals going on. Then you need a host of course. try and shy away from the free ones. Maybe befriend someone who does hosting
