gettin started! progress being made new pics!

so here we go! we start construction on the coop today. we're using pallets (yes we're doing this on the "cheep") we have a salvaged screen door, which is pretty cool, and a bucket of mis-tint paint (don't know why the didn't want it it's a beautiful color!). anyway wish us luck! we've been happily married for almost 12 yrs, i have a feeling this will be our first real test!!

we'll post pics as we go!

Hahaha.... sounds a lot like my husband and I. Driving me nuts to wait it out while they sit in my make-shift temporary shelter. Hopefully

within a few days...

this coop building is kicking our a****!

Dh has gotten the floor framed, the joists in place and it's up on it's 16" legs!!

just wishing i had taken a woodworking class somewhere along the way, i'm not much help!

please send good coop building karma our way!!!

My next coop is going to be built out of pallets. It going to be 8 X 12 I got all the pallet I need. I just need to find the time to build it.

Well, we got them into a better 'temporary housing' ~ barbed wire under our deck (and a wire dog crate to lock them in at night with overhanging wood above it and a perch). They seem happy and have laid 4 eggs in four days, so we are encouraged! I know one pest I will not worry about... our scrawny cat ~ I checked on the hens and found the cat had gotten out our slider screen and was in the cage/crate. The hens (who each definitely outweigh the cat) wear standing at the door to the crate. The kitty looked puffy and alarmed. She was ever so delighted to flee when the chance finally came! Hahaha... I laughed so hard!
