Isn't it like a purring sound but a whiney sort of purring? i've visited a few alpaca farms and i would LOVE to have a few! I know how to knit and crochet too so they would be great for a crafty hobby!

OMG! you should hear how cute they sound! i cant describe it

They hum. As you are around them more you will learn their different hums. They have a hum for contentment, to call to their babies, to threaten their neighbor ("that was my piece of hay"

), to show fear. They also have a really unique 'alert' call. Once you hear it you'll never forget it. And, they can 'bawl' when angry - another sound you won't forget.

And the males when breeding... well, that's another unique sound.

boy, i saw their protectivness (is that a word? lol) today....one seems to be the protecter of the 2..or something...i let them out today with my goats and pigs...and when my goats tried to approach them the one kept standing in between his buddy and my goats....and for some reason they are fine with my bigger wether Alpine, but they hate my little pygmy doe! the protective one kept chasing her if she even got close to them! and she being a good girl for once! she was trying to make friends...

but yet they let my bigger male chew on their coats!..
lol.png
one had some grain stuck in his coat and Daughtry found it and was eating it off him...
roll.png
...they didnt really care....but if Cricket approached...the protective one chased her off....and i have to say...this little goat has never run from ANYTHING before!....so..now, i am concerned about them getting along in the same pen...

Wendy: We have an Alpaca (Birhtday Cake surprise) who is adorable. You are really going to love them. They are so sweet. I would suggest putting them (alpacas/goats) in different pens for about a week, so they can get use to each other first unless the Alpacas are coming from a home where they have co-exsted with goats. They are shy, but can be really friendly, make sure you are around them all the time when they are young. Don't handle thier faces to much even though it might be tempting, males can get a crazy thing called buzzerk syndrome, That's were they will constantly try to mount any human that comes in distance or other animals yes even your goats and their personality is really altered for the worse. I didn't believe it either till I saw it happen and it was very sad. He had to be placed in a pen all by himself. You really didn't need both of them if you have goats. we house our baby with the goats, they are like a little family. You might run into problems when the get older with their fighting teeth come in. This is really long I'm sorry, we've been rasing llamas alpacas for 9 years now we are just down to one. But if you have any other quaetions please feel free to pm me. Good luck with your new boys you're going to love them. Justine:lol:
