I am thinking about getting some ducks but my main concerns about them are
1. Will they fly away as I live in an urban neighborhood and don't have room for a full coop
2. Will the ducks get along with my dog, he's a welsh corgi (herding dog)
3. Will they make more noise than my dog or the street behind my house

1. Most breeds besides bantam sized and Muscovies can not fly. However, ducks are messy so if you don't have space for a coop they may destroy your yard

2. That has more to do with your dog. With proper dog training you should be fine but in some cases it just does not work out

3. All female ducks with the exception of Muscovies are loud. Some are extremely loud. You'd be better off with a bachelor flock

I have enough area for a pen with just a short 3 foot fenced area, but not enough for a full on enclosed house are, so I think I could manage the mess. I just don't want to wake up to a call by the neighbors asking why my duck is in their pool.

My dog should be okay because he loves protecting our yard from any other animal, but once he knows that the duck is a friend he should make it part of his "herd"

Thanks all for the info about the female ducks being so loud that will be helpful

Also would Call Ducks be a good type because I know they are small and I like them more than the Muscovies, but is there any problems with them that I should know about, and where is the best place to buy them in a small amount. Thanks guys

Oh yea you shouldn't deal with them flying off in almost all the domestic breeds. Though some of the lighter breeds can get a little bit off the ground. Has your dog been with birds before? If not I'd stay away from some of the more skittish breeds.
