I already have about a 4 week old female rouen duck who really needs a friend to play with......i plan on getting another one but should i get a different breed to try out different duck personalities( what breed would get along with a rouen) or stick with the rouen breed, and what sex should i get,i dont want to have babies, but i really want a male duck.

Sorry I can not assist with breed selection. But, if I were you, I would definitely stick with the SAME sex duck if you are not wanting babies - as it sounds you are not. I ended up having 3 females and I am VERY GLAD about that! Just because you or I may want a male bird, doesn't mean we need one and what comes thereafter...

If I were in your shoes, I would have a hard time deciding!

But today, I feel like I would go with a similar sized duck, at least, and another female. Fertile eggs are not such a big concern for me (I know there are stories of hidden nests and surprise babes

), but I would be more concerned that a drake would turn out to be oversexed and harm the single duck. Which would lead to needing more females, and even then the drake might pick on one more than the others, etc. etc. etc.

Rouens are lovely, so are Swedish, Aylesbury, and Pekin. There are probably a number of abandoned female Pekins who would appreciate a loving home, by the way.
