He almost looks like a lop to me.

Good for you. Years ago I had a big New Zealand buck for a pet and he gave me a great deal of pleasure. He didn't mind being carried around and petted. I kept him outside, not in the house. On occasion I would turn him loose in a fenced yard so he could hop around and eat the grass and do whatever he wanted to do.
