Getting Goat kids

how often do their hooves need trimming? sorry for the 100 questions....
One of the websites that I mentioned with free printables is. http://migmogacres.rachelwhetzel.com/?page_id=28
That one is a good place to start. I use bookmarks to go back to everything useful I find onliv about goats

if you look up mineral counts in your county...it will show a picture of your state...tap on your county and it’ll tell you what your soil is deficient in, so you can watch your goats. Like copper bolus. Mine need copper. You can tell if they need copper because their tails start to get a little like a fishtail. It’s no huge deal. You just buy a supplement, and it dissolves in their belly and within days you’ll notice a difference. Those are the little things, that, as time progresses, you’ll pick all this up, and it will become second nature...but, write it in your binder :)

These are the moms and four of the five new kids. Ignore their heads...they just got disbudded...I know, it looks awful, but it will grow aNd I will not get hit in the eye ever again :)View attachment 2023584View attachment 2023585View attachment 2023586View attachment 2023587View attachment 2023588View attachment 2023589View attachment 2023590

Omg! How cute!
One of mine is naturally polled. The other isn’t. He just has little buttons now, but this breeder doesn’t dehorn hers. How late can it be done?

Do they suck on your fingers too? Mine do that...nibble too...it’s cute.

Yes! I went out to let them run around for a little while, but didn’t take a bottle yet. The little one absolutely loves his bottle time. Can suck 8 oz. down in no time! So when I didn’t have a bottle with me, he started nibbling my fingers and sucking on them. It tickles! Lol

Oh they are so so adorable!! Thats another debate we are having polled vs. being disbudded. Now we are looking at which would be easier/more manageable with our lifestyles- milking or fiber goats...so many things to consider with every decision!
Well considering you shouldn't breed polled to polled, that may make it easier. You will need to still tend to some horns.

Here's some information.

Most dehorning does need to occur when the kids are less than a week. You can dehorn adults, but it generally has to be done by a vet. We have used castration bands with success, but it doesn't always work the first time, and you can end up with scurs.
