It's hotter than Hades today, so I moved my ladies to the shaded chicken tractor early. I usually wait until they are done laying. I created a dark, quiet, secluded area with nesting material (same as the coop) in the tractor. Well, one at a time, they made a jail break and a b-line to the hot, hot coop to lay their eggs in their usual boxes. After I placed my little prisoners back into the tractor when they were done laying, they stayed in there for the remainder of the day. Tomorrow is going to be even hotter. Can anyone help me get them to stay in the tractor to lay? I have no clue how they got out!

We had no problems in that regard! We purchased nesting boxes at Fleet Farm, and the ladies LOVE them! That's the problem! I'm going to try planting a fake egg in the new box to get them to go in there to lay. It's just WAY too hot in their coop right now. Wish the neighbors hadn't cut back their tree. Now our coop has no shade :(
