Does anyone know where to start if you wanted to supply some of the large hatcheries with hatching eggs?

Ask the specified hatchery?

Worth a try. Other than that, not really sure. But you could just ask them if they're up for new stock on a certain breed (if you carry a rare breed especially, they may be interested in that) and see where that takes you. (prices, how much, when, what is required to do this)

Where are you located? Most hatcheries sub contract their hatching eggs to growers like yourself. Very easy to get into... especially if you work with the hatchery and ask what breed they are having shortages in.

I am currently in North Georgia. I am about to deploy to Afghanastan and looking to retire when i return. i have a few breeds of chickens and guineas now and plan on expanding the opertation some day. just trying to cover feed cost .

jeff,
I enjoy reading your post I have learned a lot, keep up the good work

I'm not sure what hatcheries are close to you, I doubt any hatcheries would want to have the eggs shipped because that really lowers the hatch rate. If you can find one close to you with in driving distance it wouldn't be hard to sell them hatching eggs. If anything you may get a better return on your investment by selling hatching eggs to members here on BYC. Many people here are addicted to hatching eggs... so your client list is pretty big!

Good luck in Afghanistan, I'm sure your going be eager to return... I have a couple of friends that are in Iraq right now, I get to chat with them on-line every now in then when they are at the camps. You keep up the good work too... thank you.
