Getting into turkeys, but which color?????

We do raise them and have for many years. What books have your read with the wrong bird picture or the wrong weight? I think most people follow the APA standard of perfection when looking at birds and weights. If that doesn't work then we can look at some pictures right here. Maybe you will share some to? I don't understand why your comments are so rude and demeaning?

I don't pretend to be any sort of expert on turkeys. I just raise them because I like them and there's a market for them in my area so I've read a book or two (or twenty) about raising turkeys and I've never seen a reference that said Bourbons were smaller than Midgets or Belts. If someone had Bourbon stock that was growing out smaller than Midgets or Whites I sure wouldn't buy from them. The only breeds I raise are Bourbons and Midgets and my Bourbons are noticeably bigger than my Midgets.

I'm sorry if I offended you but all I did was quote what my APA standard of perfection says for weights. I never slandered you or your birds in any way. No reason to get all huffy puffy about it. And I never claimed to know every thing about turkeys, i'll be the first to admit that I am not very knowledgeable on them. You're really doing a good job advertising BYC to new members.

By the way very nice pictures

Thanks Outback on the pictures. I have no idea myself what the problem is with some people, other than it is getting worse and it is really getting old.

Nice pics Irish.

Yeah I think I am gonna have to settle for bourbons because slates are impossible to find in my area and the blacks are pricey.

And as far as the rudeness it doesn't bother me at all I am quite thick skinned but it isn't helping BYC at all and can really deter new people to the site. Look at that quail place forum they have a lot of less than pleasurable people on there and is not a nice site to be on, hence why I am not on there and on here.

I'd definitely recommend Bourbon Reds. I've read that they do go broody and make good mothers, and I believe it! Our Bourbon girls will puff up and chase away chickens they deem offensive (like our poor Polish roo), so I think they would make protective mothers. They are also quite inquisitive and will follow you around.

So
, are you sure they are Bourbons, or are your turks as bred in-and-in as your info. and attitude? Just curious, no offense meant. Where are those pics of all your turks? You have time to post here but have mentioned in previous post that you were too busy to snap a few shots for we curious folk who, like our turks, want to vet the range before wandering out across it.

As I mentioned, in the thread linked to above, there are `gurus' and there are sideshow `swamis'. Post a shot of your turks with your local paper/computer screen (for date/time validation) in the picture. Then I'll be willing to drop the nickel and enter the tent, and the more knowledgeable members here can bring you up to speed on what is what.
