Got a surprising phone call the other day. I had bought a standard bronze tom from a very nice lady south of me.
She called me to see if I wanted her flock of Royal Palms! I had asked her about some started chicks.

What has happened is her turkeys free range and were going all over the neighborhood nesting in neighbors yards and they even went a half mile down the road and were bothering a neighbors bird dog. Lost around 13 chicks to dogs and cats. :(
So she called me. Said I would be glad to take them. She wants $25 a bird. Going to go pick them up on Wednesday. Has some other turkeys too. Going to take them too.

That's what I'm afraid of my turkeys might try to do when or if I try to allow my turkeys to free range.
There 10 weeks old now and I thought maybe waiting another 10 weeks before attempting to let them free range during the day when I am home.
I did get a good Idea from another member here is to only let out some of them at a time and the rest would be imprisoned the ones let out would not go far from there buddies LOL.
What kind of set up do you have and do you free range.

I am new to raising Turkeys digging for information and trial and error.

We live in a very rural area so I free range my turkeys. The lady I am getting them from lives in an area with very close neighbors; more like a town setting type area.

My birds love free ranging. Just make sure you lock them up every night. I do not have a problem with grasshoppers around here. Know a lady that also raises turkeys and they feed them some commercial feed every night to bait them into their house.

Was not able to get them. The lady was not able to catch all of them. She is going to let me know when she catches them. Then we are going to meet up and then I can get them.

Sounds like this poor lady has her hands full.
Did she give you an idea of approx, how many there might be.

I opened the Turkey Slash Chic pen open for the 3rd day this week only letting a few out at a time to explore and then herding them back in to.
I just opened the pen to day and let all the Turkeys and Chics roam for about 2 hours supervised and then they appeared to want back into there pen so I escorted them back in.
Baby steps so to speak.
