Getting my hovabator down a degree

Nope, I dont have the the little red plug. I bought this gently used on here, not from the gqf. Should I see if I could buy it from gqf or somewhere? Will this hurt not having it?

I would say that the 48% humidity should be fine. I was just trying to offer some info on how to lower it if you chose to. On the final days you will fill the other trough next to the middle one and that will raise the humidity to hatching levels.
What are you using for a thermometer? I use three to calibrate and two during incubation, one digital and one analog. You really don't seem to be that far off as it is.

Don't stress, things will be fine.

its just a cap plug ya could use anything plastic that will fill the hole. ya should be able to find something at the local hardware store

Thanks for all the help. Ive always used broody hens to do all my hatching and with this last one taking a huge nose dive, I thought I better get a bator. A few things went wrong, on my behalf and some not, so I was already stressing before I even got the eggs in the bator. Now that there in, Im stressing even more! And its only been 9 hours.

Just for some added comfort......I've got 34 in the bator right now at 11 days. Started with 39. 5 were clear after day ten and the rest are viable right now. The 1588 is running at 100.5 on the analog and 99.3 on the digital. Humidity is right at 45%.
So far things look pretty good and I'm not running much different than you.

Hi again,

I bet you can put a piece of tape over the vent if you don't have the plug. And as for raising the humidity, you just pour water into the bottom of the incubator into the well of the plastic tray.
Then use a hygrometer (I have a couple different ones but love the Petsmart one I bought in the reptile section)
My Genesis are running anywhere from 100.8 to 102 they seem to fluctuate.
I do have a water wiggler in mine and the temp of the thermometer that is inside the water wiggler is just under 100. So that tells me that the eggs are probably just about that temp.
I like to put hot tap water in my Genesis because it doesn't take as long to register the full humidity level.
I have had great hatches. But I have also noticed that if I open the incubator during the hatch, chicks do suffer. Some people don't have a problem sneaking a chick out but it is just too dry here.
Hope this helps.
