getting new chickens to use Roost???

if you put a roost in put it lower to the ground and then just put another one a little higher where they still can reach it but a little higher then the other when so they can just jump up and down sorta like a ladder type thing as soon as i put my two roosts in with my young chicks when they were half way feathered they slept on it every night but my silkies didn't they don't roost much

By "low" (when talking about very young chicks), I mean up to 4 inches. They love to go up and down, and do a "king of the roost" game when they are little. Very entertaining to watch.

my chicks are 5 weeeks old. I also took a 2X6 and put little pieces of 1X1 across it every 6 inches or so and made a ramp that goes up to the secon roost beam on the assembly. i did see some poop on the ramp this morning so maybe they were playing on there exploring. They are fun to watch.

i have tried a couple times to post pics and the forum wont le tme i guess i havent been on here long enough. i have one of the roos on my phone but its not a smart phone so il lhave to wait until i getr home to try again.

Ok. What I did to build a roost is cut a 2x4 to fit in a corner about 3 feet high and put nails in it and one of my roosters sleeps on it all the time. I will post a pic of it when I go outside

Wow it let me this time i must be a real member now. Any way. After taking the picture i moved the ramp down a rung so it wouldn't be so steep. the plywood under the roos ist the begining of a box to catch poop. the floor is natural ground with pine shavings so the hard surface where most poop will be will make cleaning easier.
