Hi! I know I already made a thread wondering if my too new parakeets will fight but I need some more advice! Do I HAVE keep to meet them apart for a few weeks! Also I read that before you put them together in the cage you need to let them fly around out side their cage! But my parakeet that I have right now won’t perch on my hand and is still scared of me, so I can’t let her fly around right now! That’s way I’m getting her a friend because I don’t want her to be lonely! So do I have to let them fly around? What did you do when you got a new parakeet? Im so scared they will fight if I just stuff them in the cage together! I am getting a bigger cage so hopefully that will help! Please share your experience and advice! Thanks

I just add new parakeets to the cage. Budgies live in big flocks in nature so they don't mind more. There can occasionally be a bit of bickering between two, but I've never seen anything bad.

I don't recommend letting them fly around the room. They will often fly into windows and the walls, and they could get killed. I keep my budgies wings clipped so I don't need to worry if they get out.

Thank you so much!! So when I get my new parakeet I can just put him in the cage with my old one?! And my one I have now is a female should I get a male or female? Thanks again

I always just add them to the cage without problems. You can get either sex. Budgies get along no matter. A male will become a mate. A female will be a friend. They may still do things like feeding each other like a male female pair does.

I find females are more messy, and bite harder. Males chirp more and are a bit less destructive. Pick what you like.
