Getting old is kinda sad

Well it didn't turn out well. Apparently last night coons made a raid on our oriole feeder then came around to the front of the house and got the Old Guy. Nothing but feathers on the lawn this morning. My wife is really sad as she had made a pet out of him in the couple of weeks he'd been hanging there--he'd follow her for treats. Can't say I'm feeling all that good about it either. Time to get the trap out before the SOB figures out how to get into the coop.
This was not good to read. He wasn’t supposed to go at the paws/claws of a villain. He should have been able to live out his days in peace. I am very sorry for y’all’s loss of Old Guy. Now get busy setting traps so the coon isn’t successful again.

Aww, I had hoped to keep checking in on how he was doing too RIP Old Guy, you were a good rooster.

That was the problem, the Brothers wouldn't let him into the coop--or anyplace near it. The front of our house is C-shaped with the front door in the middle and two big bird's nest spruces on either side of the door, he was sleeping under one of those spruces. I thought, given the location, he would be ok at night but, apparently once the coon finished with the oriole feed--which hangs just off our deck in the back of the house--he came around front and found the sleeping bird. I'm assuming it was the same critter. I doubt our local coyote, bobcat or fisher would come in that close to the house.

When one has chickens they are always under siege.
