Getting pigeons to return to coop

I will get some of those peanuts for a treat. I have a lot to learn and appreciate all the great suggestions I am getting.

Since I don't have a "trap" do you have a picture you can suggest? I have been looking at the different coops but not seeing a trap for pigeons. Thanks!

Your story is very touching. I also have Grandchildren,( they are younger... 5 and 6.) and they they were also sad when I lost my pigeons. They referred to them a " GRANDPAS EAGLES "

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I feel your pain in the loss of your "GRANPAS EAGLES". I was again wiped completely out of birds in one attack by a weasel and rebuilding my flock beginning of June last year. I am currently up to 13 adult birds and 2 squabs with birds on eggs. Hope you are able to rebound to backyard buddy.

Very sorry to hear of your family loss.

I keep pigeons also, but currently do not have any due to a predator raccoon entering my loft in the autumn. Sure do miss them. I will restart my pigeons this spring.
I also would let my pigeons free range fly, and they would go back into loft at dusk. Sometimes sooner. Here is a way to train them.
Let them out hungry. That would mean that you would have to, not have feed inside available all the time. After they fly around a while you would signal to them that it is dinner time.
Here is how you train them.
Start by feeding them inside loft and making a juggling sound with a coffee can filled with nails. ( About 20 so they make a racketing sound. ) Pigeons will associate the sound with food service. After a few days, let them out hungry ,,, Then about an hour later place food inside loft and shake the can, so the pigeons can hear sound. They will hear sound and rush back into loft. There are a number of You Tube videos that demonstrates just how its done. I can find them and post links to them If you would like.
Ask anything else you would like info about. I do know pigeons quite well. You can see some of these pix in my albums.
WISHING YOU THE BEST.
Please help me with some info of you can . I have two very young homing pigeons ! Two days ago I left the shed door open and they got out I was so worried all day as I hadn’t seen them for hours . Anyway tnat even they both came back and hung around but didn’t go back into the shed . They were put all night the next day again they returned but only one went back into the shed . The other one was out again all night . It’s hanging around today but won’t go back into the shed . It must be hungry by now ? I’m worried it will never come back in

It will :old just give it a chance. When your trap bobs do arrive, install them onto an outside aviary. A dog crate work well , as you can see in your other thread I posted in. When you have setup finished, You can trap the one pigeon that does come inside coop. You would then let him inside the aviary, so the reluctant one see his mate. Place some food inside aviary. The outsider will be challanged by his mate inside, as well as the seeds. Likely to come and join the mate.
Here is a link to a members setup using a cage. Easy solution for aviary.

Here is another pix from online showing placement of a landing pad so pigeon lands,,, looks , and then could go thru bob wires into inside of aviary. Your current pigeon inside would not be able to escape. The bob wires would be installed in the opening. This pix is a loft build in progress, since no bob wires installed yet.
