I keep all my large layers running together (my silkies and my polish each have their own pen). If I want to get pure bred eggs to sell as hatching eggs, how long to I need to have them seperated by breed to insure that they are not going to be a Heinz 57 chick?

When a mating occurs, they normally stay fertile for about 2 weeks. This is an average, which means some stay fertile less and some more. Many people use three weeks, which is fairly safe. However, several people have reported on this forum that they have had fertile eggs for 3-1/2 weeks after the rooster was separated. If you want to be absolutely sure, wait four weeks.
