Getting Ready for Crop Operation: UPDATE

Goodness, I give you HUGE kudos for doing this. There's no way I could have done so! I hope your girl does well; of course, please keep us posted!

GOOD JOB! I thought I was going to have to do that once, but now I think my hen's problems are associated with an egg laying problem. Anyway, you've given me courage in case this should happen (God forbid). Thanks!

I have been talked out of doing this by another person from another poultry site.
My hen is still eating and walking around. But the crop is quite extended and the feathers are all gone. Its red and "hot" looking. She's been like this for a few weeks now. The crop is hard yet almost mouldable.(I have very hard clay soil) I can almost feel the hay like stuff in there. I tried oil on saltine crackers, but its still there. One site says try oil down the throat and massaage. How do I know where in her throat to send the oil down? I'm afraid to shoot it down her airway!

I'm not really afraid to do this. I have aquired a few skills from personal experiences with medicine. But it will be the first time I'll do any cutting!
How and when do (does) one decide to cross the line and go for it??
Thanks,
