Good luck with your hatch!

I don't know if it had anything to do with my hatch, but ...
I had a staggered hatch, 48 hours apart. All were shipped eggs. I put the first batch on the floor, as usual. I put the second batch in egg cartons. In the egg cartons I hatched 15 of 16. First batch I got 15 of 24.

Good to know Kathy, thanks.

I had already planned on hatching in cartons next time, but your post convinces me even more.

I decided to just leave eggs in turner (unplugged of course) at lockdown, didn't have to touch eggs, holes already in bottom, can be washed in dishwasher later to sterilize. Here's what happened................

These started hatching this AM and so far they're still going.... I don't think an egg carton would hurt!

i have 42 eggs loaded in the bator, now if i hatch them in egg cartons do they move around or just sit in there shell. how soon do you take them out of the bator if i am hatching that many eggs. wont they be real crowded in those egg cartons or do i do has the last post and hatch them in the turner unpluged of course. just worried of trying something different. most of all i want a high hatch rate and healthy chicks. thanks:/

I think the only thing I might do next time is to remove 1 or 2 of the trays. I did have one chick that got stuck and had to open the bator to get him/her out other than that it went pretty well. The bantams had a little bit harder time getting out of the egg cup but then they also weren't crashing all around like they did with my last hatch without the turner. These styro bators just don't have enough room! Can you tell I want a bigger bator? lol
