I'll make it as short as possible...
DD works until 12:00 am Friday night...we have to leave for Inverness by 6:30 am Saturday morning. She bathes one of the roos before class and work on Friday but leaves the other 3 for after work. ?HUH??
I had a wedding cake (a part-time side job...??HUH??) to decorate Friday afternoon. On the way from the bakery to my house with cake in tow (to be delivered on Saturday afternoon after the show) I am run off the road by an ambulance on a deserted road between 2 small towns. Car ok...I'm ok...the cake is NOT ok. I cry...
Get home...completely de-icing the cake...take off all the decorations...make more icing..completely reconstruct the three tier cake and re-decorate it. I'm done by 1:00 a.m. Leave cake at my house and DH a note...head to DD's house to help with the bathing of chickens. Take clothes and decide to spend the night..what little there is left. At 1:30 a.m., I arrive to DD blowdrying 2nd roo and she says, "Mama, can you go to the black's coop and pick out a hen and a pullet to take?" ??HUH?? It's 1:30 a.m....so with a flashlight in hand...out I go. Someone is on a low roost so I stroke her back and she squats...yeah, a hen!! She looks pretty round, so I pick her up and head back inside. Go back outside and pick out a pullet...
Proceed to bathe both of them and wrap them in towels on the kitchen counter. They both go to sleep
Help finish blowdrying roo, then blowdry hen. By this time, my 58 year old back has had it and I go lay down. DD drys the pullet and goes to bed at 3:30 am. At 5:00 am both roos who are in the house in their little crates, start crowing. DD gets up and puts them out on the porch.
6:15..alarm goes off..up and at it...pack up the car, chickens, coffee and head out.
The hen ends up winning champion featherfoot with plaque and ribbons...?? HUH ?? Who would have thought it after being chosen at 1:30 am with a flashlight??
