getting ready to order chicks- Best hatchery? McMurrays?

I'd like to put in a good word from Meyer. This is my first time ordering chicks, so I don't have much to compare them with, but it was a great experience. I ordered them on a Saturday because they were the only people who had customer service answering the phones on the weekend. I got 5 happy EE pullets. They were packed very well and started eating right away. I did have 2 cases of pasty-butt, but it probably had more to do with my mistakes (I left sugar in the water for two days, not realizing that it was just for when they first arrived.) They chicks hatched on a Monday, and made it to my post office on in Georgia on Tuesday!

Their minimum order is 3, but they do add something like 35 dollars to shipping for small orders. They didn't add any roos for heat; which is good, as I'd only have to get rid of them.

Mt. Healthy in Ohio is great. Our CO-OP orders form them, adn we get our chicks from the CO-OP. The chicks are about to start laying and are healthy. They are beautiful, sweet birds.

And last year it was McMurray's chicks that were dying.

I guess there is always that chance when you get them from a hatchery. Thats why I wanted to get mine locally but it's just not the right season and I can't find what I want locally

I have ordered 2 times from Stromberg's this year! The 1st time I received my chicks within 5 weeks, and the 2nd time I received them within a week! And that was 4 weeks ago. I received an order of assorted bantam cochins...they sent 8 extras! All survived and did well. As they are growing up, I've seen that I've received a wonderful variety of beautiful birds! I had to get st. run, and out of 33 chicks, I believe only 5 are roos!

The staff was very polite, the birds shipped when they said, and were received when they said and all survived! I highly recommend them. They are not a hatchery themselves, but work with several hatcheries to get you the best and in the shortest amount of time. Shipping was also included in the price of the chicks! No extra fee!

Well I might check into that, I haven't heard of anything like that.

My first hatchery order was from Meyer in Ohio. 11 BO roos, and 41 pullets. Got 53 total, all in very good health and conditon on arrival. 8 weeks later all are doing well, and are nice looking birds. I got them when they were on a special, I think it was a great deal, especially all alive and well. Give em a look see, can't hurt.
