Waters out. Power is unreliable. Frozen rain last night melted most of the snow into hardpacked ice. I'm getting as much of it as I can into buckets but im not sure how much I can offer my birds when I have children to worry about. I need suggestions for maximizing what little water I have for them, what is the best non-electric way to keep the water that I can offer them liquid?

Oh goodness I'm sorry your all going through this , the only thing I can think of is heating stones in your oven if it's gas , or in a fire I know rocks/stones will hold heat for a while .

what i did was take the top layer of snow and put it in a bucket and put it inside for it to melt, it’s not the cleanest water they could possibly have but it’s water and chickens eat dirt all the time so it’s somewhat okay :idunno my pipes are frozen as well, i’ll look into more ways when my power comes back!

Great idea! I was just typing a similar thing with melting the ice/snow :)

I think they're already collecting as much snow as they can for water, but it has to go to their children first. It's an awful situation :(

they can survive hours without water, it isn’t hot right now so they won’t need more than usual, keep collecting ice to turn into water and prioritize your family first, chickens will be okay, you could give them a couple sips if you’d like but remember that they’ll be okay!
