how are they now?I have some chicks from Greenfire farms, I was lucky enough to get them on sale when they weren't able to ship out chicks one week (local pickup). I've got 8 of them, and I noticed last night that one has silkied feathers, they said it's a recessive gene the breed can carry
If this helps anyone in the future, he ended up being a boy. This is my little one, three weeks old today. Anyone have any guesses roo or hen? Are they a breed that you can sort of tell by wing feathers?
I have some silverudds with crests, who I’m sure were crossed with cream legbar at some point. I love mine too. Yes it would be nice if they were pure bred but they are some of my favourites. They are good layers, lay all through our cold winters and give me pale light blue eggs.my birds are growing had a few hickups, a few slow starters and one with swollen joints. Im guessing if they have combs going first then they are males, right?
my silverudds chicks(from my flock), so far i have 4 males, maybe one girl. two other girls are my silverudds blue x cream legbars cross. I love the cross but really wanted purebred girls. o well, they are the sweetest out of the bunch and so dark. i dont understand the genentics though. my purebred boys have pink toes while the cross have super dark toes.
Im planning on keeping the swedish black hens until they are older to see the best male. any recommendations on how old to wait. ?
