Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

My car is a 2003 KIA Sorrento. It had 89900 miles on it . upon its return it had 93900 miles. They did 4000 miles in three weeks.

Cheeky buggers
Maybe they wanted to help you get your milage up closer to your post count, just think what a couple more weeks could have done for the milage?
It's a good thing they cleared the light for you, maybe?

Its pretty quiet here...

But not at coco beach

June 30 is rapidly approaching. Dodong and Ompoy will get their half yearly incentive bonus.

On the chicken side, i was hopingto see better hatch rates with the decrease in storage times.it seems to have worked. We arenow approaching 80%. I think the understanding of turning is helping. They are now turning 5times per day. The temp in the bator room is also cooler - it was getting up to 101 defrees in the room with the bators and the dehumifiers.

We stopped running the dehimidifier between 1pm and 4pm and that kept the temp down to 96-98f during the peak of the day.

Our guinea fowl are now laying a consistant 20 eggs a week and we have hatched 40 for ourselves so the keets in the brooder will go up for sale.

Bird sales are pretty consistant. We had a sale for 30 16 week old birds last night. That will cover this months feed bill.

The new batch of cream legbars is set. The photos of the last merkan hatch were useless. Still, i would rather have good animal workers than photographers.

An hour after we put out the piglets for sale sign, we sold our first piglet of the season.

I set a price grouping based on piglet weight to make it easier for the boys to sell.

Interestingly the heaviest did not sell first. The buyer was after "value" and figured he would rather pay less up front and more for feed. The bigger the piglet at weaning, the faster they double their weight but i guess you buy what you think you can afford.

Two more sold later in the day, so we cleaned out one third of our available nventory in a few hours.

Pigs 2 and 3's offspring will go on sale on friday.

The goats are doing well. In another month we should see part saanen kids bouncing about.

Mozza is marking time. I will breed her later this year.

The rainy season started yesterday and we were greeted with an inch of rain.

On friday Mrs Oz will head out to the farm and pick up a ton of copra to take to the Dumaguete Copra Mill. About 600kg was processed by Ariel. He should receive a coupleof months salary as a bonus.

Ariel goes back to part time this week as public schools return to school for the new semester. Our kids go back the week afternext.

Cheers

Oz

Thanks for the update on Coco Beach! Sounds like things are moving along nicely - can you believe how far you have come? It's amazing how much you and your wife have accomplished, much of it long-distance.

I have 9 eggs on lockdown today, 6 Orloffs and 3 Ameraucana. It's my first hatch, so wish me luck. (I had convinced myself that nothing would hatch so last night I ordered 6 Orloffs for next week.)
