Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

OZ please add chocolate english orpingtons to your wish list.
just came from Renie's house on the other side of the state
i picked up 9 buff orpingtons that come from a well known line (i'll tell you about those in a PM)
& a chocolate rooster that i will have over one of my black britt hens
the offspring should be some black some chocolate
i'll breed the girls back to the daddy which give me all chocolates from then on.

renee has awesome birds.

large fowl chocolate orps are as rare as rocking horse poop

at 15 - 20 bucks an egg and my 15% hatch rate they are out of my league.
well the roo that i got today is a bantam
i'll breed him to a couple of my black english orp hens
that doesn't mean that the offspring will be bantam though
some should be but others will be large like their mothers.
i just couldn't pass up a good looking boy like this
i'm selling off a couple extras for her on craigslist
http://nh.craigslist.org/grd/3960122080.html
i'll also be taking them to the swaps on Sat over in Maine

Any hatch update?????

All large fowl choc orps come from bantam stock. crossing them back to a big black girl every second generation will get some nice birds in a few years. Its a great project.
i have 2 chicken tractors under way &
got a 8'x8' pen built for the turkeys today
they are glad to have their own digs i'm sure

i think i'll split my britts
my black hens will go with my new chocolate boy
& my blue girls will stay with my splash roo.

Renie says her friend out of state has set the Bresse youngsters to the side for both her & i
i'm just waiting for his email & the box of birds.
that should give us a good chance on having plenty of Bresse eggs to set next spring here
i think you should take some with you at some point to the islands

well bed time for me folks
