Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

LOL! Bob is on his way out...just waiting for the neighbor's chicken slaughter. I don't have it in me to butcher any of the chickens.

We did it.. once. It was awful o_o

Tried to do the humane 'bleed bird until they pass out' thing. Yeah... no... fiance just couldn't get his jugular cut properly so the poor thing bled very slowly for like half an hour

To add insult to injury, he was tough as nail to eat, even after aging 3 days in the fridge (likely the stress ruined him). Tasted like beef.

Never again.

How near to the farm is the storm going to be? How much water do you think will fall n your area. Are the house and coops/animals in danger?

The animals will be ok.

The Guinea chicks picked up the quail disease and we lost 4 but the antibiotics stopped any further losses. I have all chicks from all breeds on a regimen of oxytetracycline and dimethox at the moment. I will give it for another 5 days. I should be able to then move them to the grow out coops and totally de-bug the brooder room. All booders will go out in the rain and then sun for a week once they are bleached.

Mrs Oz arrives here on Thursday next week and will stay 7 days. I have bacitracin to go back with here.

I see medicated feed for all chicks in our future.

My folks are at Distance 1 from the eye of the storm. They say it's "not too bad, 53mph wind gusts and a decent rain". I guess they're used to it!
