Did the typhoon hit at high tide? The last time I visited, our area was on the far edge of a category 3, and it was easily the worst storm I'd ever been in (albeit Cali hardly ever gets real weather...)
Kabankalan is a distance from the ocean so there was no tidal effect. The typhoon that was in the Philippines recently was well above our area- the flooding was caused by a low pressure system that hung out for several days. We received about 12 inches of rain in 4 days. There is another typhoon on the way though. Its well east of Virac but heading towards the Philippines and will make landfall in 3 days or so. Hopefully it will travel north and not pin any weather down in our area.
Duck Man (Mok) does have a nice place. Its in the center of of the old city. I placed an order for 400 hollow blocks, 30 sacks of cement and 100 reo bars this morning that will be delivered today from a hardware store around the corner from his place so I can only presume the place is drying up ok.
the Photo below is the street that our favorite hardware store is on. It was taken yesterday.
