Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Did the typhoon hit at high tide? The last time I visited, our area was on the far edge of a category 3, and it was easily the worst storm I'd ever been in (albeit Cali hardly ever gets real weather...)

Kabankalan is a distance from the ocean so there was no tidal effect. The typhoon that was in the Philippines recently was well above our area- the flooding was caused by a low pressure system that hung out for several days. We received about 12 inches of rain in 4 days. There is another typhoon on the way though. Its well east of Virac but heading towards the Philippines and will make landfall in 3 days or so. Hopefully it will travel north and not pin any weather down in our area.

Duck Man (Mok) does have a nice place. Its in the center of of the old city. I placed an order for 400 hollow blocks, 30 sacks of cement and 100 reo bars this morning that will be delivered today from a hardware store around the corner from his place so I can only presume the place is drying up ok.

the Photo below is the street that our favorite hardware store is on. It was taken yesterday.

I am one of the lurkers . . . I've read through all 387 pages (while at work . . .) and find your quest absolutely inspiring. I don't have chickens of my own currently but will once I get out of where I am. Hopefully I will be drawn to lurk less . . .

Welp, I thought Bob the naughty rooster and I had come to some kind of agreement. I walk into the chicken coop, he walks out.

Until this evening, that is. I went in to check the water and the moment I opened the fenced door (we have an interior door in our coop, made from chicken wire), he was ALL over me. More so than he's ever been. So I pinned him down, which was a struggle because he was fighting, and then I picked him up and just held onto him. He was not a happy rooster.

In the meantime, the mennonite neighbor was in his pasture (which borders our chicken run) laughing his rear end off. Between him and my husband...I swear, I'm glad they think this is so funny!

Clearly, I need to do some more teaching with Bob. Or get a new rooster, lol.

LOL! Bob is on his way out...just waiting for the neighbor's chicken slaughter. I don't have it in me to butcher any of the chickens.

The Philippines is about to get hammered again

So far I haven't been able to "do" it myself either. Guess I'm not the big mean amazon warrior woman I thought I was. Oh well. Anyway the Mexicans down the road from me don't care if the roosters were mean buggers. Still make good tamales!
