AI is done routinely in the Philippines.

The guy that does it charges 1 piglet - pick of the litter - and always female.

The sale price of a piglet is Php2,300. The cost to feed a boar for a year is not much more.

If I have 9 pigs and 2 farrowings per year..................

I am better off raising a new boar every 2 years

I do wish I could find someone to AI goats. Its a shame to invest in a buck when I wont be able to maximise his value. Its not worth it to bring goat semen from the US though.

Not even the Meat Master semen? That is a crossing of the Boar and Kiko breeds Every thing I have read on them says that they outperform anything else.

Happy Thanks giving everyone.....

deb "Rolling up her sleeves to do TDay prep"

Glad to say I have all my dishes ready in the fridge. Took the lazy way out this year, took some shortcuts like premade mashed potatoes and a box of mac n cheese.. Put it all in casserole dishes and all of it will be heading into the oven when the turkey is almost done. It's just me, fiance and the two kiddo's, no need to impress anyone

Did make stuffing from scratch, I forgot to buy a box. And I always make sweet potato pie from scratch (except for the crust... just can't be bothered to make that if you can get two for $1.50)

We got a 24lb turkey for $14... only problem was that it was WAY too big... so I got fiance to chop the frozen bird in half with a Sawsall. Hilarious, but it worked. Got the other half in the freezer for Christmas.

Prep dishes have been washed... I may ACTUALLY have a relaxing Thanksgiving this year *laugh* I don't know how I did this two years ago, when I was 7 months along. Then again, I was still working 50+ hours a week. Couldn't do that either anymore.

Y'all doing something special, Oz?

I am having trouble posting from my phone.

We sold copra and bought a Nubian buck yesterday. It was a mammoth day. We picked up Merciless the bycer in Dumaguete and I sold him some chickens today - my first sale!!!

Eggs are incubating. Welding is over for this trip. We got one pen completed and the second almost finished. We paused to make a livestock crate for the trailer.

The trip is almost over.

Tomorrow is the track home.
