Finally got through the whole thread!!! This has been a better read than the last few books I've read. Let me introduce myself, name is Tiger. Reside in SW Arkansas and hoping to start on a coop soon! Will be building in Redneck Philippine fashion ( pallet wood to save money !! ) Planning on an expanded Wichita style coop. You all have been a wealth of information and a catalyst for me to get started. Oz you keep two-stepping and I'll keep reading!!

i too like to use pallets to build coops
i added two 8x8 pens behind one on my out buildings
i would stand up a pallet then drive in a section of bedrail rite next to it into the ground
i used the holes that the bedrail already had & used a few nails so the pallet & bedrail was stuck together in good shape
i then added another pallet then more bedrail.
i then added some 2x6 rafters (the only thing i had to buy for the project)
then i added 2x4 strapping which was covered with used galv. steel roofing
i have muscovy ducks in 1 pen & a pair of bronze turkeys in the other.

I would love to get my hands on a truck load of pallets.

Stuff like that is consumed long before I would ever have access to it.

Nothing is wasted in the Philippines. Everything is recycled until it crumbles and then it still has another year's use.

Mrs Oz will return to CocoBeach today with the netting. She scored sixteen lengths of bamboo yesterday that are over fifty feet in length for twenty two dollars.

We need to start on the grow out pens for all these chicks that are going to out grow the coops very soon.

The municipal health office decided to send a sanitary inspector as part of our CocoBeach Farm's business permit.

The woman did her walk through this morning. We happy the all clear.

On Monday we will get our mayor's permit and can file with the department of trade and industry. Once we have our federal licence we can pay sales tax on our sales. Yippee

Huge strides were made on the piggery today. It's one of the things that makes an impatient person crazy. It looks like nothing is getting done and then suddenly it is. The prep work is time consuming.

Dominic and Ging met with Mrs Oz today. Ging is six months pregnant so she will be watering the gardens and trees with some light house work and cooking for the crew for the next five months. That's essentially what AnnaLou does anyway.

They are currently out of work. Dom has been picking up day work making hollow blocks by it has been sporadic. They are pleased for the opportunity knowing how good they previously had it.

Dominic will start tomorrow and Ging and the two kids will join them on the first when AnnaLou and Bernie leave. Bernie will be back a week later as a construction worker.

The chicks are doing well. It's lockdown this time tomorrow on the Turkey ducks and goose. The muscovy will be another week.

The first the eggs the Chukar laid did not hatch. It's not surprising though. It may take a few weeks for the make to get up to speed.

The quail are slowly increasing the egg laying. We will incubate the eggs and see how it goes.

Motza is having a great life. She gets her mud spa treatment daily and is gaining weight.

The the oldest pigs are now over 165 lbs. Estrus will be induced so that cycle together. Their second cycle will be meet the boar day. That should be in six weeks. Then three months three weeks and three days later we should have a bunch of piglets.
