Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

It is sad when you just can't get people to stay. My husband has that issue in the states.

@daveomak I will read them when I get back to the real world. Thanks

All sorts of things are happening with staff. I will fill y'all in one I know what's happening myself.

We had a good day. The guys are plodding along on the coops that will be known as C-block. Chris probably won't last more than ten days but he is helping me so that's the main thing.

Maybe along with a T.V. you could do a shot-o-Rum?
Good Luck!

Dominic took some days off and I started a new helper today to replace whoever just quit - I lost track of names. The isolation is too much at night.

Its been a while since I had to feed all the animals, scoop pig poop and label eggs.

None of these guys have TVs in their own home and we only watch a few movies so I had not given it much thought but we are going to buy a couple of cheap TVs and antenna to see if it can keep the guys company at night.

This rapid worker turnover is a problem. I worry that when your family have moved to the US, and you are not popping over to the farm so often and able to keep such a close eye on activities, that things could rapidly go wrong.

If a couple of guys quit on the same day that could be a disaster. There are so many animals for it to go wrong with.

Did you meet up with Bernie?

Good to see your still alive piglett

How is Mrs P and the pregnancy?
she is well OZ

in fact she has been working in her spare time (her idea) at an Asian restaurant (so the flock as been eating rather well)

she has piled up a nice sum in her bank account for her Jan/Feb trip

so spending money for her will not be a problem

due date for the little one is Oct 22nd

A shot of rum is what caused our latest drama.

The guys that deliver the gravel brought a bottle of Tanduay with them on Sunday. Dominic got into the booze with them. When Ging refused to give him money to buy more he left and went to his mother's. He sold his cell phone and bought more booze. Monday he did not show up and we got a desperate text from Ging who was here with a two month old baby and two kids.

Her brother came out to feed the animals with her and we got home at 6 pm with still no Dominic.

On Tuesday morning we sent Ging off. Dominic had sold there water bufallo and was still drunk. Ging came back and said she has to go. She had tears running down her face as she left what she new was her best chance at a future for her family.

It was terribly heart breaking.

I have not meet with Bernie but have been in communication with him. We pushed back the trip over to his side of the island until Saturday. Mrs Oz has my cold and leaving Chris on his own after 24 hours is not ideal.

Bernie is interested in coming back. The wheels fell off there plans when Analou's aunt that's supposed to be sponsoring her education feel sick and it's now spending her money on healthcare. Bernie has not been working.

Analou does not wish to return and we are OK with that. She is not the best housekeeper and won't work the gardens.

The current thinking is to find a new couple and perhaps Bernie. Have Bernie oversee the animals and the couple be responsible for the grounds. The wife can help in the house when we are here.

I am going to forge ahead and reevaluate in December. If it's not 100% I will sell off the animals and just keep on a caretaker to keep the grounds in order.

@piglett

That's great news my friend. Regards to your wife and soon to be born child
thanks OZ

it's shocking what 1 bottle of booze can do TO some people

when i am in the Philippines i don't buy even 1 beer for myself or others till it's my last night there

i'm a grown man & i'm smart enough to know when iv'e have had my fill of drinking with my brothers inlaw

i simply head off to bed & let whoever wishes finish off the adult beverages.

the next morning i board my plane clear headed & feeling good.
