Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

8 hours since first pip. 1 chicken is out!!

Its one if the mutts from my control group from Lake Elsinore. The papa roo is a rhode island. The mamas are Australorps productions rocks and mutts. This one will fluff up yellow but has red tones while very wet.

52 to go.

Into lockdown went:

5 of 8 black copper marans
8 of 8 blue laced red wyandottes
6 of 9 Australorps
20 of 30 OFFGRIDMAMA mutts
14 of 18 Lake Elsinore mutts

Of the 20 I culled, 14 were infertile, 1 blood ring, and the rest failed to develop.

If just a few survive I would be happy but the way its going I am over the moon.

My friend here has ducks. He wants me to bring some big meat breeds to cross with the the locals. Ducks are definitely on the agenda!!
Hi Oz,

I have a breeding pair of Pekin Ducks I would be happy to ship you some eggs. I won't take money for the eggs because I'm just excited for you reading your story! I've never shipped eggs but it would be an adventure for me so if you are interested please PM me and I will start setting aside some eggs for you. Right now I'm getting 1 or 2 eggs a day and so far I've just been sticking em in the fridge for baking. but I know they are probably fertile because the drake and hen have been seen mating as my 14 year old daughter loves to tell me..."mom, they're at it again." LOL

but like I said I won't charge for the eggs as I love a good experiment!!
