Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

AND she looks so cute and loving in your avatar.....

Yes she does!

don't let looks fool you boys :)
she will work over a cockerel without a second thought
good thing i don't have feathers on my neck
she might end up processing me too

I just completed processing my first meaties ever. Raised them from day old cute little chicks to 8 week old stinky beasts.
My poor mother thinks I've gone off the deep end. She's in NY and thinks she has to come out to AZ to fix me.
She thinks the heat has finally fried my brain.

I am enjoying this chapter of my life the most so far.
Getting more in touch with my food source and providing healthier (non antibiotic laced/hormone induced, bland) food for the family.
I can't believe that I did something Bernie hasn't yet

. My husband wasn't too thrilled about the processing idea. But he did agree to be my Go-for.
Must be the Filipino in him. Kind and gentle when he wants to be . Obnoxious and cheeky at most other times.
By the way OZ - some of his family is from Cavite as well. Never heard of the place till I met him and his relatives.
I have really enjoyed the photos that you and Piggy post. It gives me a better appreciation for where & how my mother in law grew up.
She was quite private about her life. When she became a US citizen, it seemed like she left it all behind.
(although she still took care of her relatives that remained in Cavite) She was very private and proud, all 4 foot 11 of her.
Good for you Kelly! Most of my family thinks I'm crazy. Most of them just don't get the whole pure food thing. Now that my mom is older tho she is remembering my grand parents raising chickens and processing the roos; she got to wash them after and said she hated the pin feathers so much she would pluck them with tweezers ;=)

I cannot pick up from AVBirds in Lancaster till Wed eve. (Royal Palm, Red Buorbon and Blue Slate Turkeys as well as white Guinea Fowl)

OGM and Kev (peafowl) are meeting me in Temecula tuesday. I will then run up the 1-5 and head north towards you.

It will be a nice 215 mile circle around greater Los Angeles in 2 days

I said I was not going to do it this away again, but I have to get the freshest eggs possible. I have arranged a half day on Thursday so I should be OK.

I have packed all the sundry items I need to take. Its just the eggs. I am also waiting on more foam that will arrive wednesday.

3 packages of eggs arrived today. Way too early. Now I am stuck with the dilemma od whether I should take the eggs knowing they will be 8-9 day old shipped eggs when set. In LA I am lucky to get 25% on older shipped eggs.

Just as well I have learnt how to sleep on planes.
