So no more turkeys or peafowl. Day 28 is almost over. In 24 hours we will do egg topsies. Geese on day 32. Scovies on day 35.

I have had successful hatches from local chickens with local eggs. In fact, Bernie sold 5 12 week old roosters at the market today for 25 dollars!! Our first income from the chicken coop!! I get 7 dressed birds in exchange for the roos from imported eggs next week. Thats money in the bank. We are rolling in it,

$25 is a weeks pay for some people in the Philippines

Well I just set 24 Bourbon Red and Royal Palm turkey eggs...I have no Idea if they will hatch or not, but gonna give it a shot. A friend gave 5 dozen turkey eggs...how the hell am I gonna hatch 60eggs...I actually had to go buy another bator! So I'm working with 3 currently...I've definitely lost my mind.

I am sipping my vodka and pomegranate juice cocktail after a long day of ... Other stuff. Oz, when you are my age and/or retired, I hope you look back on this experience of yours (the poultry part) with a sure sense of having done something marvelous.

Not only are you articulate and knowledgeable but you are an inspiration to folks who - until seeing your efforts - have just skated along with picayune plans involving MAYBE a spouse or a friend or two, not the whole network you've developed in furthering ...whatever the heck you're furthering.

Hey, I "found" a juvenile peacock in my yard today. I can't decide if somebody dropped it off at "that crazy chicken lady with the turkeys, ducks, and geese," or it just decided my property looks like a good poultry preserve.

Of all the birds I have wanted, peacocks are not one of 'em. I won't chase it away.

True story:

Those of you who have children, have probably seen the movie Up. If not, rent it and watch it (even if you don't have kids), as it is FANTASTIC. If you've seen the movie, than you know of the character Kevin, who is a "snipe". And you know of the sound he makes.

When my husband and I were house-hunting, we had never heard the call of a peacock. So we're seeing this house (the one we ultimately bought) and we're standing outside with the realtor, talking about different things. Across the street, but a bit down the road from us...is our closest Mennonite neighbor. They have all kinds of animals, including peacocks. It happened to be spring and the male peacocks were all kinds of noisy.

The hubby and I were like, "What the heck was that?!?" Then it struck is...HE HAS A SNIPE!!!

LOL!!! It was quite some time before we learned that the call was actually from a peacock. But we sure had a good bit of fun joking about how our neighbor had a snipe.

And in other news...our 3 week old chicks are starting to stink up the house. We need to get these guys outside!

1/2 of my french bresse eggs are in lockdown the other 1/2 are up under a broody out in the coop.

the weather is warming & it's getting more humid so i only put water in channel #2 in the hatcher
all spring i would add water to both #1 & #2 channels.

we will find out in 72 hours what is what
