Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

better than one with scissor beak and a second with one eye.

the chick has been named compost. i dont do special needs poultry
my wife wants to save all of them & put them in the meat pen, fatten them up & send them off to camp

8 Ameraucanas, 1 Andalusian, 1 Wellsummer 1 Lemon Cuckoo Orp hatched overnight. 17 chicks from 35 in lockdown.

One of the Andalusians has scissor beak and a single eye. looks like I may need a few more eggs HFR

18 chukar are pipping.
The remainder were underdeveloped so had quit over the last week. This is a great step for me as I did not have one drown or poop out after pipping.

The Breda Andalusians and the Ameraucanas were california and oregon eggs. the rest were from elsewhere.

My research is coming together

i have probably missed a few pages here; sometimes you zip along real quick and if I"m busy I can't keep up. didn't you have Welsummers due around now? I thought we set eggs close to the same time. Mine were all clears; just cooked them up for the chickens.

However my 6 EE look good and so do 4 of the Wellie/Leghorn cross hen; all bred to a nice EE boy named Earl. His daddy was a Lavender orp and he has a huge chest on him. The Wellie/leghorn girl is very small, a little pinched in the tail, but she lays a jumbo extra large egg every other day, so hoping she passes that egg size on to her daughters. These eggs are due Aug 1

I got one wellie to hatch along with the 16 others.

The guineas and ducks look very promising and I would be grateful for a pair of turkeys and peafowl.

My quail and chicks have been enjoying mashed hard boiled eggs for weeks

We also set 31 mutt eggs last week and another 34 last night. Some are young pullets but the roos are active
