Chilling out on the farm

The coops - a 24" extenstion to the 30" wide current row house of 6x6 coops will be a major wind break for the new fruit trees. I planted 3 mango and 2 star apple trees near the coops for shade

the morning's progress

the front of the coops are skinned with plywood and then a sheet of amacan - split thin bamboo woven into a wall material. Amacan is about 3 bucks for a 36 sq ft sheet. It is often used as a stand alone wall stabilized with bamboo poles as a house. I like the "native" feel of it. It should be good for 5 years in this environment

Oz - your coops are drool-worthy! And to position them as wind-breaks for the fruit trees is pure genius!

Mrs Oz is at the farm until Sat morning. The kids have had a break from preshcool but return on Monday and they have their swimming lessons on Sat afternoons. SHe is taking photos with her phone and then going down to the beach to upload them using whatsapp. I have an Android for Analou to take over the task of atleast bi-weekly pics once they return.

Here is the current view from the beach side looking towards the highway. The marine grade plywood is visible behind the amacan skin you see on the front.

My goal is to reduce the amount of screen we use and convert to bamboo lattice. Its a case of time versus money. This batch of coops will be the last I use the screen on. As the sun wears it out, I will replace it on the other coops. I am using it here because I have six breeding groups ready to lay and I want to finally start breeding purebred chickens.




The sides now have the amacan as well. We had to send Antonia and her nanny on a field trip to the market in Cauayan (3km) to buy the conveyor belt material for the roof thatch. Our delivery from the hardware store wont make it til tomorrow. Hopefully a good chunk of the roof will be on tomorrow before Mrs Oz leaves.

HERE is the tracking on one of my 200lb boxes sent LBC cargo. It should get to bernie just after valentines day. as you can see, the container was stuffed!!
