Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

That's awesome. We're expecting our first baby girl in April.... Going to be a whole new world in this household full of guys!
A baby girl will change your life. My girl is a total princess fan and my boy was hard wired to love cars. One would think there is nurture in the equation but with these to its totally born attributes. amazing.

Love all the pics, Oz! I especially love the pics of those little smiling faces! Your children look so happy! Fingers and toes crossed that your paperwork is on the very top of the stack now that the court is back in business today!!

Thanks - we are just taking it day by day.

I love this post it like a good non ending book and gosh Oz I wish I had the life you do!
My life lol?

its not as fun as it seems - but its a great adventure!

My step-son loves monster trucks most of all, but enjoys watching Disney movies, even the girly ones, because his mommy watches them. Mommy is the highest power of all, as you know.

My own son is quite possibly autistic, we're waiting on further testing. He has no real preference for cars or dolls, he actually likes music instruments and drawing most of all.. he is not very good at playing and he doesn't talk. He mostly chews on EVERYTHING. We find chewed up objects all over the house. He even tried to eat plastic Christmas ornaments off the tree

I just got done cleaning up a jar of Vaseline he got his hands on. He had a blast..... heh.

I was quite a tomboy and creative. I liked drawing, sewing, crafts and messing with tools. I will wear dresses hapilly, but that's about where it ends. Never had a manicure in my life, get a haircut every 2 years, own 3 pairs of shoes (rather than 300 like some women), not fond of shopping, gossip or make-up or other 'girly' things. I probably wouldn't know what to do with a prissy princess!

My soon-to-be husband was in SHOCK when we found out it would be a girl. We had joked about it, but when it was certain, he just stood there for a minute. He was like 'What am I going to do with a girl?', I told him that he should treat her like he treats the boys. I don't expect any special treatment for a girl. Our boys have a 'doll house' and a baby doll, stuffed animals, lego's, arts and crafts as well as trucks and toy guns (I hate toy guns, but.. that's another story).

I am curious, what sort of parasites and diseases do you have to watch for and deal with oz? I was thinking about it today because I found lice on my chickens yesterday an gave everyone and everything a good coating of seven dust. It's the first time I have ever had to deal with that. I was also thinking how lovely it would be to be swimming like your kids ( the little cuties) and realized that while this crazy cold is awful being somewhere warm isn't without its own drawbacks. Which brought me to my question. Sorry about the rambling. :)

i did not see rambling

for humans
mosquitos are a huge pain in the wet season and when there is no breeze but the wind dispatches them at this time of year, last thanksgiving saw me bathed in repellent. i even fogged. Malaria and Dengue are around but i have never heard of a Malaria case. Dengue is more in cities, For the week of Christmas i used no repellant and got just 2 bites.
little tiny fire ants! i hate hate hate them. they will make me itch all day and kill a chick in minutes.
fungal infections are an issue especially if you have boobs or bellies. the best prevention or cure is gel type deoderant on those areas. its like magic!
skin cuts need to be watched for infection

for poultry
Quail disease wiped out 100 quail in 2 weeks. i am trying again and will add bacitracin to feed for first 6 weeks
lice could get bad - they did in goats and motza but invermectin dispatched them. i fog my coops with pyrethrin once a quarter and have sevin on stand by
i vaccinate for fowl pox and NCD. i have not had coccidiasis

corrosion is the biggest issue. nothing lasts. an aluminum fly screen lasts 4 months - we use fiberglass, a GI roof lasts 1.5 years. we are replacing with resin roof. a satelite dish LNB lasts 6 months. our 47 inch TV from USA could only be adjusted with remote after 2 years inside a bedroom and in an armoir. you have to adapt. we watch downloaded movies ant tv series if we watch tv at all. we have a 200 dollar 32 inch tv.everything gets scraped and painted every 2 years at most.

termites are relenless. rats have been supressed significantly with baiting.

no ticks, raccoons, coyotes, foxes dingoes,

bernie will eat anything that eats his chickens.

we have about 20 local chickens that truly free range and act as decoys/sacrifices to our 2 legged predators
