I am imagining a guy named Craig at the side of the road, with a list.. and people come to him to tell him what they're wanting to sell and what they're wanting to buy... and he sets buyer and seller up with eachother.

Sir,most Filipinos prefer to breed gamefowl than table chicken. They can sell a 12months cock up to 5,000.00 pesos depending on the gamefowl bloodlines.

So if its not worth selling in the local market, who is going to buy my chickens?

The interesting thing is that there is a market - just not in one of the poorest municipalities in the country.

One BYCer traveled from the far south of Mindanao by bus, then caught a ferry 10 hours, traveled by road 4 hours to our place and picked up a trio. He then caught a bus with 3 chickens for 4 hours, a plane to Luzon and then private car 3 hours to his coop.

I posted a for sale ad on a forum and got a hit in 24 hours - again from someone on another island willing to pay airport to airport delivery.

The main website for classifieds is Sulit.com. I need to be in the Philippines to set up the account as they recognize a foreign address and ask tricky questions in Tagalog that only a native could answer.

Like the hatching process, the market will take time. I have to create it.

www.cocobeachpoultry.com and www.cocobeachfarms.com are registered but I need a few days of nothing else to finish them.

From a local Island perspective, scores of rich Negrenses travel in their brand new cars past our place every day. Once we are fully registered and "tax mapped", we can put a sign out on the highway for our products.

The next local step is approaching continental food shops and delicatessens to try carrying Marans and Easter Eggs. All eggs sold in the Phils are white, so the brown is better hype here in the USA is easy to capture.

I also have a couple of expensive restaurants I am going to approach about serving game birds on their menu. Quail eggs are easily sold. Live quails could be interesting locally but I plan to do a few seminars to get the word out about feed conversion and quails.

I sold the three at the local market because I got so much concern that I was transferring some to the small cold white coop. It was an educational exercise for my BYC friends. I had no expectation of getting anything more for them. At least I can make a few bucks a head on mutt roos - a whole lot better than the USA.

At this stage, the only birds headed that way are the mutts - understanding that I also have 17 mutt teenagers to take their place, 80 mutt chicks, and another 50 in the bator. I am also crossing Orps with Barred Rocks and local Visayans with Rhode Island Reds. I will always make cross breds - I just prefer to know what the parent stock are.

Chickens are nice to raise. It provides you with eggs, meat, joy,laughter, company in aloneness at times & even help ease your financial problems during emergencies. These birds gives therapeutic effects as it keep you moving around as you clean their coop, waterer, feeding pots, etc. & it makes your mind sharp. You can experiment with different breeds, strains or bloodlines to come up with the best bird.My white crested bearded broodhen had now hatched 6 of the 8 second batch of eggs i loaded. The first load of 12 eggs she hatched 8. Now i loaded her again 10 eggs. Lol!
